Diabetic Screening
Barry & Sargent has been part of the team establishing a retinal screening service for people with diabetes in the greater Wellington Region .
Working with the Wellington Independent Practitioners Association (WIPA) doctors, a process has been developed that allows for referrals, monitoring and evaluation of at risk patients.
A new Diabetic Retinopathy Screening camera and equipment enables the detection of changes in eye pathology and referrals for treatment as necessary. This service is available in both Wellington and Porirua.
The positive impact of this new screening programme was recognised when the ‘Wellington community partnership for retinal screening.’ won the New Zealand Health Innovation Awards.
